Bittersweet Jeep

Today is bittersweet Jeep...

Most of you may know but some do not, when I was 14 yrs old my dad approached me and said, "you'll be 16 soon and you'll want a car, you have 2 choices, lets build one or you can buy one".  What I didn't realize was my dad was offering to teach me about life, money, pride, relationships, family, teamwork and much more.  My family was never that close but my dad was all I had sometimes.

My dad and I decided to rebuild a 1983 Jeep CJ-7.  My dad bought us the project in 1997 and we finished in late 1999.  More than two years later we completed the jeep together, a lot had changed since we started.  Through this rebuild we learned a lot and most of it had nothing to do with the Jeep.  I remember the cold nights in the garage and warm days in the drive way, frustration and accomplishment.

Thank You Dad for all the memories, thank you for teaching me so many things. If you have your own blood, sweat and tears into something then your pride and passion will never perish.

I've had my Jeep for nearly half my life (14+ yrs) and I spent a lot of my time and money but it created so many memorable times.  Times with my dad, friends, my wife and now daughter.  Today I Sold It,  not because I wanted to but I had to, because my family is my priority and I spend every moment I can with them.  My Jeep deserved a new home, another life and I couldn't of sold it to a better man.  It may be with a new family now but it will always be a part of me.  It is time to find a new project and make more memories.

Love You Dad, Our Jeep was never just a Jeep!

Hot Summer Days

It's been terribly hot in Waldorf, but we still try to get outside whenever we can. Usually it's not for long because the heat is unbearable at times, but we make the most of it.

We head outside as early as we can in hopes to get as much play time outside as we can. Today, we spent the most time outside, then we have in the last few days. We had some rain pass through last night, thankfully, because it was nice and cool this morning. I believe in the hour we spent outside though, the temperture rose a lot. It got to the point where McKaila was at the door to head back inside. Usually, she's kicking and screaming because she wants to stay outside, but not with this heat.

In the time we were outside playing, McKaila was having fun with the water. I showed her how to water the flowers with her watering can. Needless to say, I was constantly having to fill it up with water, but she was enjoying herself.

Happy First Day Of Summer

Even though it has felt like summer around here already, today is the official start of summer. To start of the first day of summer, it decided to be a heat wave around here. It is 95 degrees outside and the news said that the heat index could be well above 100.

I didn't want to be taking McKaila outside in the afternoon with the heat. So, shortly after breakfast, I put McKaila's swimsuit on and headed to the backyard to play in the sprinkler. From the moment I turned the sprinkler on, McKaila was running back and forth through it, but not for long. We played in the water for about a half hour when McKaila wanted to head back inside. She realized how hot it was and rather be in the nice cool house!

Pictures

There are a lot of pictures that are taken on a daily basis around here and most of them don't end up on the blog. Usually when it comes to the blog, I only put the pictures that are related to the day!
These pictures, mostly of McKaila, are too adorable not to show, so I thought I would compile them up and make one blog of all the random pictures taken throughout the last few months!!

McKaila loves to cuddle up with a blanket. Today she wanted to cuddle with the sock monkey, but usually it's Smurf

Ocean City

We have always talked about taking a day long trip to Ocean City one day and finally yesterday, we did it. At 8 a.m. Sunday morning, McKaila, Amber, Courtney, and I loaded up the car and off we went.

Off to Ocean City!!
The Bay Bridge

Looking out into the water while we were on the bridge

After a close to 3 hour drive, we finally made it to Ocean City! When arriving to Ocean City it was already close to 90 degrees and you could tell people were eager to get to the beach. Traffic was backed up getting into the city and police officers were directing traffic for the many pedestrians walking through the streets to get to the water.

Excited to get our toes in the sand again!!
McKaila is ready to get into the water!!

We picked a great weekend to go to Ocean City because it was also the same weekend of the OC Air Show! It was something else seeing all these planes flying right in front of us. They literally would be right above the water. It was crazy, but what a show. We weren't expecting something like that, that is for sure.

McKaila had so much fun at the beach. She was excited to get into the water. And after her first time, she just wanted to go back in, but being that the water was still pretty cold, we couldn't keep her in very long. So, we play in the sand for a while, then Daddy would bring her in the ocean again.

After spending a while on the beach, we decided to go back to the car and drive to a place Grandma Nancy told us about, Assateague Island.

The car hadn't even moved yet and McKaila was fast asleep

On Assateague Island there is a beautiful beach, camping, plus much more, but the reason we wanted to head there was because we wanted to see the wild horses roaming around!

The horses just chilling on the side of the road

After spending some time on the island, we headed back to Ocean City to walk on the boardwalk and get some dinner. We knew that being there, we needed to get some good seafood, so after walking on the boardwalk for awhile, it was off to dinner! We ate at Harrison's Harbor Watch! We all highly recommend it if you are ever in that area. Our table was overlooking the water, so we got to watch all the boats come and go while we were eating dinner!

It was an amazing day at Ocean City and it was kind of sad to see the day end. But, it was great seeing McKaila playing in the sand and enjoying the ocean all for the first time.
Hope to see you again, Ocean City!
