As we do every birthday, we much rather have the kids each pick a fun place to go for their birthday and spend our money doing something fun, instead of buying them tons of gifts. The kids have really enjoyed going online with us and finding a new place to explore and have fun, when birthday fun day approaches.
As McKaila's birthday fun day was approaching, she made sure we sat down at the computer and start exploring fun things to do for her birthday. One of the first things that pop up was the Butterfly Pavilion. It instantly caught her eye and said that's what she would like to do for her birthday fun day.
So, weeks later, we arrived at the Butterfly Pavilion. McKaila was very excited. All she hoped for when we arrived is that a butterfly would land on her.
Before we got to the butterfly part, we walked through to see all the insects. McKaila was in awe of it all. She was even the first one to go over to "Rosie" the tarantula. I couldn't believe that she was so eager to have Rosie crawl into her hand, but she was brave and did it, along with McKenna. Logan was not one bit interested in it.
The kids love going to the aquarium and seeing all the fishes. So they were excited when they noticed a little area with starfish, octopus, and "Dory and Nemo". There was even an area that had a shallow pool with starfish and other sea creatures that they could put their hands in and touch them.
McKaila wasn't very interested in doing it at first, but after she saw that Logan put his hand in the water to touch a starfish, she was all about it. Once she touched one thing, she had to make sure she touched them all.
Time to see some butterflies. We really didn't know what to expect, but wow, it's was amazing. At least Courtney and I thought so. Once in there, the kids weren't into it. Butterflies were everywhere. they were on the ground, so you had to watch where you walked. They were flying around your head, flying everywhere really.
The kids were good looking at the butterflies that were on the flowers or just hanging out on leaves, but once they flew close to their heads, they would freak out. All McKaila talked about leading up to her birthday fun day, was she was hoping a butterfly would land on her. She wouldn't even stand still long enough for that to happen, but it did happen to Courtney. There was actually a few different times where a butterfly would land on him.
All 3 kids weren't having the butterflies, so once we were done walking around, they requested that we go back to see Rosie the tarantula again. They much rather hang out with the tarantula than butterflies, how crazy is that?
After saying our goodbyes to Rosie, we walked around the garden they have behind the pavilion. Unfortunately, it wasn't much of a garden right now, but it was still nice to take a little walk outside before heading to our next location.
For our final stop for birthday fun day, it was the American Girl store. McKaila had gotten birthday money from grandpa and grandma Nancy, along with great grandma Holtgeerts, so when Mckaila found out we were going to be by the American Girl store, she knew what she wanted to spend her birthday money on.
She got some new pj's for Luciana along with her robot dog. She was so excited because that's something she's been eyeing since she got Luciana.
McKenna, she's been saving whatever money she's gotten from the tooth fairy along with birthday money. Yup, she was able to save money from her birthday. She's been wanting new outfits for her American Doll, so she made sure to get something while we were there.
McKenna got her doll a new outfit along with some little accessories.
They were pretty proud of their purchases and couldn't wait until they got home to play!
It was a long day out and about in Denver, but it was all worth it to see the big smile on McKaila's face all day!
