Things have been a lot different, but I got to say the kids have done really well with understanding what is going on in the world right now. Me, on the other hand, I'm just feeling beyond blessed to have Courtney here to help me through this. I have shed countless amounts of tears with this all and he's always there giving me the tightest hug along with telling me that we are going to get through this, together!
It's been difficult to not be able to just get up and go to the park or go to our favorite restaurants or even just run to the store to get those couple little things, but we are managing. We decided early on, that Courtney was going to do all the shopping and going out for anything while the kids and I just stayed home. So, I'm always making lists for the days that he knows he is going to go out, so we aren't just going out randomly. Just trying to limit Courtney's outings as much as possible.
The girls found out they weren't going back to school on the 15th of March, but they have been home since the 13th because it had already been a day off for them, so we are going on over 2 weeks at home together. At first, we were told that they would possibly come back to school on the 6th of April, but that since has changed to the 17th. It may or may not change, so we shall see. Courtney also found out that he was going to be teleworking, but he does have to go in once a week for flying. At this time, we don't know if the girls are going to be going back to school or not, but we have begun some remote learning. It started last week for the girls, but it was just a little intro to get used to it. This week there are no assignments due because technically they are on spring break. So, starting next week, the real remote learning begins.
Along with the girls doing their school work, Logan has been still working on learning his letters, so he'll be readying for kindergarten. The girls have really loved being able to be home while I have been doing letters with him because they are able to participate in helping him. The girls love it and so does Logan. I think Logan likes to just show the girls all that he knows already.
Before the girls remote learning began, I had the girls do some of their math or reading work daily and then find something fun to do without it being on the tv or iPads watching something. McKaila always would choose to do the Mo Willems lunch doodles. She has done a few different drawings, but this one of the pigeons is her favorite by far.
Mrs. Storm, McKenna's teacher, had a mini assignment of building their own fort for reading. Usually with the kids, we make one big fort for them in our back room, where we can cover the whole room with blankets. McKenna thought that's what she wanted, but then she said she wanted something for just her. So, to her room she ran, and we created this. She was pretty excited about her little fort in her room.
Here in Cheyenne, we never know what each day is going to bring when it comes to weather. It may be 50 degrees(which is a beautiful day here in Cheyenne, especially with the sun out) but the wind is crazy, so there isn't any fun in going outside when it's so windy. So, when we have sunshine without the wind, we try to take full advantage of it. Myself, I try to get the kids out in the later part of the morning. Just because not so many other kids are out. The kids know that they can't be around other kids right now and they can't go to the playground, which is hard for them, so I have been trying hard to make sure that they are just enjoying the outdoors with just us and not having the temptations of the other kids running around the neighborhood.
One afternoon, we decided to take a walk/bike ride around the base lakes. The sun was out, most of the time, but we also had a lot of dark clouds around us, but we went with it. This was the first time the girls have rode around the lakes and I was very surprised at how well they did. It didn't start off so well because McKaila was very uneasy, especially around the muddy areas, but after a little bit, so was off and didn't look back. Logan, he just wanted to stick around mommy and daddy, and make sure Luna was behaving.
Oh our Luna. She was loving our walk. There was many areas that were pretty muddy and for the most part, she didn't want anything to do with it. Then, towards the end of our walk, she choose the biggest mud puddle to run through and kept running through. So, next it was to try to get her to get into the lake to get some of the mud off of her. She wasn't having it. But after a couple stick throws, she was ready to go and chased down that stick and continued many times after. The kids really got a kick out of seeing her running in and out of the water because the last time we had tried getting her to run in the water was when she was still a little puppy, she wasn't interested in it one bit then.
When there is no school work to do and the kids are driving me crazy, I pull out the laptop and start printing out coloring pages. This day, our coloring pages were courtesy of Michigan Awesome! McKenna has really been interesting in coloring lately, so I have been printing out a lot of things these days, but she said her favorite so far are the Michigan ones. I came across some NASCAR coloring pages online, so those will be up next for coloring days!
We don't know how long this will continue, but we are trying to stay positive over here. We, I mean me. it's been hard. Not going to lie, but I know this is what's got to happen right now. The kids and I are better off staying at home while Courtney goes out and takes care of all the grocery shopping and all the other little things that we may need. But, even though these are hard times right now, I'm so happy that I have these 3 kids, our 3 animals and my amazing husband to stick this out with. It's beyond crappy that our world is going through all this right now, but we have to be grateful for the things that we have right in front of us more than ever right now. This will be a time where we will want to put this behind us when it's finally over, but it will never be. It will always be a time where we look back on and remember the great times we had together at home. Because after all this is over, everyone goes back to their life. Being busy with this and that and forgetting what truly matters and that's the family/friends that are in front of you.
