Birthdays are a bit different with the corona virus going on, but Courtney and I are doing our very best in making birthdays at home the best we can.
I had to plan for McKenna's birthday much earlier this year, so I could make sure we had all the decorations and birthday presents. With everything taking so long to get shipped out, I planned everything a month ahead of time and thankfully we had already gotten some of the presents for her, but we just wanted to make sure her birthday this year was extra special.
McKenna was sad that she wasn't going to be able to celebrate her birthday with her friends and teachers at school, so even though we were going to be stuck at home for this birthday, Courtney and I wanted to make sure she still had a smile on her face all day!
We decorated her desk area for her day of school and we even decorated the tent that grandma and grandpa got her for her birthday!
McKenna asked many different times leading up to her birthday if we were going to be decorating for her birthday. I told her that I wasn't too sure if it was going to be possible because we really weren't suppose to be going shopping for birthday presents and decorations. So, when she walked down the stairs to see all the birthday decorations, she was so happy!!
I believe the only upside to not being able to go to school on your birthday, is that you don't have to wait all day to open your presents! McKenna couldn't wait to get all her school work done for the day, so she could open all her presents. The downside, she also had to wait until McKaila was done with her school work.
The anticipation was making McKenna go a little crazy, but before she knew it, McKaila was done with her school work and was ready to watch her open presents.
Then all you hear is McKenna yelling at all of us to come to the living room, so she could start opening her presents. Also, McKenna was very happy that this birthday, grandma Kuipers was able to watch her open presents via FaceTime. Usually grandma is still at work, so McKenna was happy she was able to be home to watch her!
McKenna right away said, "this was the best birthday ever!" We were so happy that even though times are tough right now and we can't do the things we want, McKenna still had a smile on her face for her whole birthday.
It also didn't take long, that she was asking to get everything out of their boxes, so she could start playing with everything. McKenna was smiling ear to ear playing with all her new barbie stuff and was extremely happy when Logan and McKaila asked to join in with playing with her.
Birthday dinner was a lot different this year also, but McKenna was still happy that she was able to pick out whatever restaurant she wanted food from. Like last year, she picked at local joint, Sanford's! Out of all the restaurants we have picked up food from, Sanford's has by far been our favorite!
Can't have a birthday without some birthday cake or in McKenna's case, cookie cake, complete with a lambie on it.
She loves lambie, loves cookies, and loves birthdays, so I think overall it was a very successful birthday!
I was sad for McKenna that she wasn't going to be able to celebrate her birthday at school with her friends, but even under these circumstances, she is one happy 7 year old!
