Last Day of School

It's not how any of us imagined how the last day of school would be, but we made it, even when we didn't think we would.

The last day the girls were in their classrooms with their friends and teachers was on March 12 and on the 16th, we began the fun of remote learning. Remote learning had its ups and downs, for sure, but once the girls got in the rhythm of doing it every morning, it started to go a lot more smoothly. Even on the good days, we still had a lot of frustration and stressful moments, but we got through it together.

The girls missed their friends and their teachers a ton, but during times like this (COVID_19) I'm so thankful for technology. The girls had a least 1 zoom call a week with their friends and teacher and sometimes they got lucky and got 2 calls. They both looked forward to every zoom call they had, especially the very last one.

McKaila had a zoom picnic for her last zoom call with her teacher and friends. During that time, Mrs. Whitehead (McKaila's teacher) made it very special for them and made it into an awards picnic. For McKenna, Mrs. Storm (McKenna's teacher) made sure they thought of some special memories they had of 1st grade to share with everyone.

Both the girls grew so much in just a short time and being able to be their teacher for the last couple months, I got to experience their love for certain subjects and the love/hate they had for other subjects. It's something that we don't get to see while they are away from us at school, so in a way I was glad that I could see all of that first hand.

The 2019-2020 school year was one for the books for sure, but I sure hope that these kids get to go back to school in August!
