Happy First Day of School!!
The first day of school was a whole lot different for us here at the Polnicky household.
We were given an option to have the kids attend school, in school, or attend virtual school. After lots of hard discussions between Courtney and I, we made the decision to keep the kids at home and start virtual school.
It was hard telling the kids that they were going to be doing virtual school, but we have had lots of discussions about the corona virus with them, so they knew we were making the right decision. They are sad about not being able to see their friends and their old teachers in the hallway, but they understand why we had to make this decision at the moment.
With our decision to do virtual school, it was time to get our back room ready. Last year, when school went virtual, Courtney made some desks for the kids, so his main thing he wanted to do before this school year started was to get the desk stained.
And for me, I, of course, wanted to get everything organized. So, off we went to Ikea!! Now that we have everything organized, I feel so much better about all this. I know this is going to be hard, but I'm going to do my best with trying to stay as stress free as possible. That's really hard for me to say 'cuz I'm always a ball of stress, but I know when I stress out, the kids stress out. I just have to keep reminding myself that we are all in the same boat when it comes to virtual school, so I just have to take a deep breath.
Today, it was technically the first day of school. But it sure didn't seem like it.
The district got a whole lot more kids joining virtual school then I think they originally thought, so not everyone has log in information just yet, so this week, it's zoom calls with their teachers and the other students.
The kids do have their own teachers for their grade. Logan has Mrs. Arnone, which was McKenna's kindergarten teacher, so he was pretty excited about that. McKenna's teacher is Mrs. Terrell, which they knew of her, but since she was new to Freedom last year, they didn't know much about her, but none the less, McKenna was excited. McKaila's teacher is Mr. Ellis. McKaila's eyes lit up when I told her she had a male teacher. She was pretty excited, since she's never had a male teacher before. We don't know much about Mr. Ellis due to the fact that he was teaching at a different school in the district.
All 3 zoom calls went great for the kids today. I think they were more interested in seeing if they knew anyone in their class. Logan saw a couple familiar faces. Kids that he would see running around the school yard, while waiting for school to get out the last couple years. McKenna only knew 1 other kid in her class and McKaila didn't see anyone she knew. McKaila has over 100 kids in the 4th grade virtual class, so this will be interesting.
Hoping that next week, we are able to log in to start our school work, but there is nothing we can do about any of this right now, so we just have to enjoy all these zoom meetings right now.
The start of the 2020 school year is different right now, but I truly believe this is where the kids should be right now! So, lets make it a good one!!
