Getting Our Christmas Tree

Every year I get very excited about finding the right Christmas tree! Since moving to Wyoming, we have only been able to get our real Christmas tree at the store, but this year, I'm excited to say, we get to go cut down our very own Christmas tree!!

Since we have the truck now, we are able to get up in the mountains and cut down our own tree.

So, the day after Thanksgiving it's off we go. It was about a hour and a half drive to Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, but once there, we were happy to see lots of snow, but there were also a lot of other cars up there. We found an area that no cars were at and pulled over and started our adventure.

Being our first time, we weren't sure what to expect, but now that we have done this once, we will be much more prepared for next year. We weren't sure if there was going to be snow because we have had some warmer days, so we didn't really know what to expect in the mountains. But once we got there we saw lots of snow, and the kids were very excited.

We got the kids bundled up and off through the trees we went. I got to say, I truly thought we were going to find the perfect tree right away, but that wasn't the case.

We wondered in and out of the trees countless of times, for probably about 2 hours. The kids didn't mind one bit though. They were excited to be playing in all the snow and they even were able to do a little bit of sledding. I was so focused on finding our tree, that I didn't even take pictures of the kids sledding, but they had a ton of fun and got very wet because Mommy forgot the snow pants. Oh well....

Finally, on our walk back on the trail, I spotted the ONE!! The perfect Christmas tree for us!

Even though the kids were soaked from their waist down and pretty cold, they were excited when we dragged our Christmas tree up to them.

We all experience falling in the snow and getting soaking wet. And once the shock of it wore off, we were all laughing about it.

Honestly, I had the worst fall between all of us.

We decided to go off into this open area. I took a big step and there I went. Waist deep on my right side. I was so stuck in the snow, that Courtney had to pull me out.  And oh man... it was where the water was flowing through too, so yup, my foot was soaked.

It was fun trekking through the snow, even with all the falling that came with it. We made some pretty great memories and the kids were already talking about how excited they were to head back up there next year!

On the way home, it was no surprise with all the running around in the snow that they did, that the two youngest fell straight to sleep. All the while, McKaila was reading her book.

It was a successful trip and I can't wait to do it again.
