Golden, Colorado

As one of our last times being able to explore Colorado before moving, we wanted to go back to Golden, Colorado. We have been once before, but we weren’t able to explore too much because we spent most of our time down by the water. This time, since it was rather chilly, there was no way we would want to stick our feet into the water, so we were able to spend time going into all the shops!

It did take 2 hours to get to Golden, so by the time we got into town, we were all rather hungry. So, before we started walking around, we needed to fill our bellies. As always, the kids had to be their goofy selfs while waiting for our food.

It was a bit chilly, mostly due to the wind, but it was still a pretty perfect day to explore Golden for the day!

I really loved that all the flowers were in bloom. The tulips looked beautiful and made me miss our hometown of Holland!

The last time we were in Golden it was summer time and going into Golden for the first time, we weren’t too sure what to expect. As soon as we got into town, you saw tons of people walking the sidewalks with inter tubes. We weren’t too sure what that was all about, and soon figured out that they were tubing down the river.

We didn’t see any of that today. The water was ice cold, but believe it or not, we did see a couple of guys chilling in the water.

We couldn’t come all this way to not go hang out by the water. The kids had to put their hands in the water before realizing that the water was beyond cold. It didn’t stop them from continuing to put their hands in the water, either.

It was a wonderful afternoon walking around Golden, but there was one last place we wanted to visit before heading back home. We wanted to drive up to Lookout Mountain and go see the gravesite of Buffalo Bill.

But first thing first. McKenna had to put a quarter into the binoculars. It was so pretty up at the top of the mountain. You looked right into downtown Golden and could see all the way to Denver!

After spending some time in the gift shop to get warmed up (it was very chilly and even windier up at the top of the mountain) it was time to walk over to Buffalo Bills gravesite.

Honestly, we didn’t know a whole lot about Buffalo Bill going up there, it was just something we had come across as something to do while in Golden.

It isn’t just Buffalo Bill buried there, his wife is buried next to him and they are buried under several tons of concrete. There were threats to steal his body, so to prevent that, they poured concrete to insure that didn’t happen.

It was an amazing day exploring and really, I wasn’t ready for it to end. I am truly going to miss Colorado and all the cool places that we have come across while living here in Wyoming.
