Hunting Island & Beaufort

We were in a desperate need of a family day, so we are headed to the beach!!

We have been told that if we don’t mind going to the beach on a chilly, winter day, that is the time to go to find some awesome shells and maybe even some shark teeth because no one is there. After some looking online, I found the perfect place to go, Hunting Island. It also means we get to go to Beaufort, which I have wanted to visit since arriving here in South Carolina.

When we arrived at Hunting Island, we really didn’t know what to expect. I had seen pictures online and even read a lot about where we were going, but wow… it’s so much more than I ever thought. The drive through the park was amazing and really wish I took pictures of it, but I was just so busy taking it all in. The palm trees, the birds, it was beautiful.

Then, we got to the beach. I thought the drive in was amazing, but once you were able to put your toes in the sand and see the ocean right it front of us, it was breath taking.

It was a bit of a chilly day, but it was the perfect day. We maybe saw 20 people walking around the shore line, but other than that, we had the whole beach to ourselves.

And the shells, oh my… the shells. They were everywhere. Everywhere you looked there were shells. Everywhere you stepped, you stepped on shells and it was amazing.

The kids were sad that the water was freezing because they wanted to play in the, but that also didn’t stop them from putting their feet in the water.

I spent most of my time walking back and forth along the shore line, while the kids played in the sand and also played a little football with daddy. But after awhile, it was time to walk the shore line as a family.

It was a pretty amazing afternoon at the beach. It was so worth going during the winter to really experience the beach on a down day where the shells are endless and birds are chirping all around you.

We were all sad that we had to head out because we probably could have spent all day there, but we wanted to make sure that we had enough time to explore a little bit of Beaufort.

Downtown Beaufort is a very cute little downtown. By the time we got there, the wind had picked up and it got very cold, so we didn’t spend as much time down there as we probably would have liked, but the little bit we were there, I knew it would be a place we would for sure come back to!

I’m sure a lot of people don’t realize, but Beaufort is the place where a lot of Forest Gump was filmed. The bridge, is the bridge they say is over the Mississippi River and as Forest ran across lots of reporters and cameras are around him and was asked “why are you doing this?” And Forest replies, “I just felt like running.”

Family day was a success and much needed! And we got to end it with a beautiful sunset!

Can’t wait to go back and do more exploring on Hunting Island and Beaufort!
