Yup, still living the quarantine life and well... it's not getting any easier.
We have just finished our second week of remote learning. It's gotten a little easier with having with having a schedule. We have pretty much maintained the same schedule that we had when they were actually going to school just not waking up so early. The kids are usually busy with their school work by 8:30 and as long as all goes well, they are usually done with all their work for the day right before lunch.
It's been hard getting adjusted to the remote learning, but the kids are doing really well with it. Both the girls teachers have scheduled video chats with either just them or the entire class at least once a week, so the girls have really been loving that. It has been a little difficult on Logan because my entire focus hasn't been on just him and teaching him his letters and numbers. I have to pause on what we are doing a lot of the time to go help his sisters. I'm just thankful that we have Courtney at home to help us through it. He does have to go into work sometimes and is working at home, but he's willing to put the work on hold for a moment to help the girls, so I don't feel too overwhelmed.
Despite the remote learning stuff we are having to get used too, we are having some fun. The kids were so excited to find a new basketball hoop and basketballs from grandpa and grandma Kuipers and they were also very happy to get a package in the mail from Auntie! Auntie sent the kids some Where's Waldo? books. They have fallen in love with Where's Waldo? and for a good week, when they were done with their school work, the would pick up their books and start trying to find Waldo.
To make this remote learning easier on us, I had told Courtney that the girls need some desks. So, the next day, Courtney was out buying wood to make desk for the kids. And thankfully it had been nice out, so while he was cutting wood for the desks, the kids and I could be outside enjoying the sunshine and shooting some hoops.
As we were finishing up our afternoon outside, we had an amazing surprise. A butterfly started flying around us and landed on Logan. He wasn't too sure what to think at first, but he put on a smile for me to take a picture. It probably stayed on his leg while he sat there for a good 30 seconds before it flew away. And too our surprise it came right back to us and landed on the bench that Courtney had made. (that's another project that I wanted to work on, making benches for the dinner table) I put out my hand and the butterfly went right on my finger. What a cool thing and honestly brought a tear to my eye.
I had to add this photo. This is what happens when Logan and McKenna get a hold of my phone and start taking pictures.
hahah
And then there is this picture of Logan... if you notice there is some hair missing. McKenna got this bright idea once morning that she was going to cut Logans hair. Thankfully, it wasn't a lot, but they didn't say anything to us. So, when I went to do Logan's hair that morning, I thought something was a little different. I combed his hair all forward and sure enough there was a section cut. When I asked Logan why there was hair missing, he was very quick to say it was McKenna. Oh man... a part of me was upset for a second, but then I couldn't help but start laughing, especially as more details of the hair cutting came out.
It only took a couple days and Courtney had 3 desk made!! He's the best and I am forever thankful for these desks. It's helped so much when it comes to all of this quarantine craziness. And it hasn't only helped me, it has also helped the girls focus on their school work a lot better.
When Courtney completed the desks, I wasn't really prepared because we had to move our old desk out and make room for the new ones. But the kids were so excited to have their own desks that Courtney still put the desks inside and before we knew it, they were busy coloring and doing art work for art class.
Courtney and I spent a whole day of moving things around along with organizing everything and I couldn't have been more happy with the outcome.
Now our school/work days are much more organized which makes me feel so much happier!
