Before school started, we wanted to get out of the house and do something fun. The kids and I have been wanting to go to the zoo for a while now, so to the zoo we go!!!!
With it still being summer and it’s been super hot, we had to get to the zoo as early as we could. I didn’t want it for any of us to be walking around the zoo in the heat of the afternoon. The upside to being there early also, was there wasn’t a lot of people around just yet.
The first stop of our day was going to feed the giraffes, but on the way, we had to stop and see Courtney’s favorite animal, the rino.
I got to say, it was so nice that we were able to just stand there and take in the animals without anyone else around!!
Feeding the giraffes are always a highlight to a zoo trip and we were lucky enough to do it here. Each kid got their own batch of lettuce to give the giraffe and the giraffe was very eager to eat it all up. He just stood there with it’s tongue out waiting for more. It was cute though and the kids were more than happy to give him more!
An added bonus to the zoo is that it’s connected to the botanical gardens. It is a bit of a walk to get to the gardens, so they offer a train ride. Thank goodness for that because I don’t think anyone could make it up the hill after walking around the zoo.
The gardens were beautiful and it gave us some great ideas for in front of the house and even around the pool area.
The kids were pretty bummed that the splash pad area was closed, especially since it was starting to get very hot, but the sprinklers were on, to water the flowers, so they spent a lot of time just standing in the water to cool off.
Even with all the sweat and lots walking, we all had a blast and look forward to going back many more times in our future!
