South Dakota Air and Space Museum

During our vacation, we stayed at the hotel on base, Ellsworth AFB.

Right outside the main gate was the South Dakota Air and Space Museum. Even after all the research that I did for our trip, I never came across the fact that there was an air and space museum right outside the base. The kids enjoy doing stuff like that, so we made it a point that one morning, we would go explore the museum.

We have been to many different air museums, but this one was very unique. Most of the museum was located outside, with very little inside. It was nice to be able to look at the planes, be able to read a little bit about each plane, all the while, the kids were running around in the grass.

The plane that is located with the sign for the air and space museum, that is the B-1B Lancer, which is still stationed at Ellsworth AFB. That is a pretty sweet plane to see up close and personal like that!

The kids are always up for getting inside a plane, so they couldn't wait until they got the chance to get into the F-16 interactive cockpit. They loved pretending they were flying the actual plane. Future pilots, maybe?

It is always fun seeing different planes up close like that and it seems like every air and space museum that we go to, is totally different from the last.

Nothing is better then getting the chance to show the kids some history and how things were back in the day.
