There was no talk about what we were going to be doing that weekend, but I think Courtney could see it on my face that I just needed to get away for the day. So, once we were all up, Courtney brought up going to the mountains. Without hesitation, I said "YES!"
Courtney started getting all the food ready, so we could have a picnic once getting there, while I got the kids ready.
Courtney knew I needed to go to the mountains, it has become my peaceful place, somewhere we can go where I feel like I can clear my head and stop stressing about everyday life things.
I don't know what it is about being in the mountains, but the moment I get up into the mountains, my head immediately clears and I take all the surroundings in.
We all love going up into the mountains. And the fact that all this, is less than an hour away is amazing. It was a busy day up in the mountains, but we were able to find a picnic table tucked away in the trees and were able to enjoy a nice picnic lunch before we drove up into the mountains.
We knew what we really wanted to do was drive up Fall River Road. We had done the drive one other time, and it was such a beautiful drive, that we needed to do it again. The trip, we stopped at some places along the way up, that we hadn't before.
We came across an area, that we hadn't before. Last time we stopped at the bottom of the waterfall, but this time I wanted to walk up to the top of the waterfall. I could probably stay there all day just watching and listening to it. So peaceful and beautiful.
The mountains still having snow on the top of them was beautiful. And then seeing the snow melting, creating a waterfall down the mountain was so cool to see. The melting snow was creating paths underneath the still standing snow which was amazing to see. The photos I took really don't do it any justice.
We had stopped in this area before to take a small little hike, so we decided to do it again. And in this certain area the kids could put there hands in the water. Even though they kept saying how cold the water was, it still didn't prevent them to continue to put there hands in it as much as they could.
The last of our adventure was to climb to the top of the mountain. It was one heck of a hike, but so dang worth it. We spotted probably a dozen elk just hanging out on the side of the mountain and as we were hiking up, we came across some marmot's. We also spotted a moose far in the distance. Really wish we were able to see if better because I am on a mission to see a moose, but hopefully next time.
It took a while but we made it to the top!! What a view!! We may have had to stop a few different times to catch our breaths, but dang, how beautiful!! It is truly breathtaking to be up there on top of the world, as so it seems.
Once getting up there, I sat on a rock and just looked out in amazement. With all that is going on in the world, this is what people need to remember. The beauty of the world. Stop being so judgmental, stop being a bully, stop all of it!!! Just be kind to one another!!!
It was a perfect day up in the mountains. A day that I hope the kids hold in their memories, as a perfect day in the mountains, with the family!
I will always treasure these moments that we have together because we aren't always going to have these times together, especially when the kids get older and they would much rather spend time with their friends, than their parents. So we have to make them count!!!
