Time to head outdoors!!
Fortunately for us, it was going to be a very beautiful day. We were already going to be heading to Fort Collins, CO to get our flu shots, so better make the most of the beautiful day and get some hiking in.
After flu shots and getting some lunch, we headed towards the mountains to go hiking. We heard a lot about Horsetooth, so we decided to scope it out.
We decided to take one of the trails that leads up to the falls.
That's another reason why I would love to come back to Horsetooth because in the summer we would be able to experience the falls. Due to it being almost winter time, there was no water running down, just a couple pools of water and that's it.
On our way back down the trail, we came across a couple deer. Big, beautiful deer. We see pronghorn every day roaming on base and a lot of time right in front of the house, but we don't see deer very often. So, the kids were in awe of seeing them and since we brought the binoculars, the kids kept asking to see them so they could watch the deer.
As we were standing there watching the deer, we slowly started seeing the moon appear. It was pretty cool watching the moon rise in the sky above the mountains like that!
We spent so much time watching the deer, that by the time we got to the end of the trail, we realized that within minutes the sun would be setting behind the mountains. We decided to wait and watch it. It's something that I wish I could watch every night, watching the sun set behind the mountains.
It's amazing watching the sunsetting in Michigan while we are sitting on the warm beach, but watching the sunsetting behind the mountains is also pretty breath taking and so happy that we've been able to experience them both.
What a beautiful place and can't wait to go exploring there again.
