McKaila's Birthday Fun Day!

It's birthday fun day time, and with lots of searching, McKaila finally decided that she wanted to head to Denver and go to the Museum of Nature and Science. Once she saw the dinosaur stuff, she was pretty much hooked, but she wanted to see what else we could possibly do, in the end the museum won!

Luckily, for McKaila, a couple days before hand,  she got some surprise visitors to join her on her birthday fun day, Grandpa and Grandma Nancy. She was so excited to see them walking through the door. All 3 kids were very excited, but McKaila knew right away, it meant that they were joining us in our adventures to Denver.

The very first thing that we came across when stepping out of the parking garage was of course a dinosaur. McKaila knew right then and there, that this was going to be a fun day and was excited to go in and see what else they had.

The museum had 3 floors, so we decided to start from the top and make our way down. Luckily for McKaila, that also meant that we would be starting at all the dinosaur stuff.

The kids didn't really understand much about the Egyptian mummies, but I thought it was very interesting, especially seeing real life mummies that a man from Colorado bought way back in the day. This mummy picture was a 30 year old female. 30 years old was considered old at that time, which is pretty crazy to believe.

A lot of the museum was animals from the around the world, but especially Colorado and Wyoming. And by animals, I mean taxidermy animals, not real life animals roaming the museum.

The kids really enjoyed that they could push buttons to hear what each animal sounded like. You could push the button to hear what certain animals sounded like when they lost their mom or when danger was near. It was pretty cool and the kids really enjoyed it.

Logan really got excited when we got to the bears. He's always had a thing for bears, but after us going to see the bears in South Dakota, his love for bears grew even more.

I would have to say that the kids favorite part of the museum (besides the dinosaurs for McKaila) was the kid area. It was a hands on area for the kids to play in. They had a dig site to find dinosaur bones and a water area and a few other areas, but the kids were more interested in the water area once they saw that, that we didn't go to any of the other areas.

The kids could have probably spent the whole rest of the day playing with the water, but we didn't have much more to go and I wanted to make sure we saw the rock and minerals. It's pretty amazing that there are such beautiful rocks out there. It's truly unbelievable looking at these beautiful pieces and the pictures don't do them justice. I took way more pictures, like always, but these were my favorite.

And last, but not least, the space odyssey area. McKaila was super excited to get dressed up just like an astronaut and she makes a very cute one too!

It was a perfect birthday fun day for McKaila and she said that every little bit of it was her favorite. When she says that, you know it's been a good day, which makes Courtney and I always happy to hear.

But I have to say, other then seeing the kids smiling faces looking at everything, my favorite part of the day was going to the terrace. They had an overlook, overlooking downtown Denver. What it made it that much better was seeing the snowy mountains in the background. It was so beautiful.

To end our time in Denver, we let the kids run around in front of the museum. They enjoyed rolling down the hill, while Courtney and I enjoyed watching them with the backdrop of downtown and the mountains. It was a perfect way to end the day, that's for sure!
