Weekend Getaway

After finding out that Courtney was going to be deploying, Courtney and I knew that we had to get away for a weekend and spend it together as a family. We originally planned a trip to the ocean, but with an impending hurricane, we decided to change our plans. Courtney did some looking around and found the most magical place on top of a mountain.

Just looking at the pictures of the cabin, I knew this was going to be the perfect spot to just be together. There was no tv, no Wi-Fi, just all of us, enjoying being together.

Once we got up the driveway and saw the cabin for the first time, all of our eyes got so big. The pictures didn’t do it justice with how beautiful it was. An instant calm came over me and I was so ready to take a deep breath and enjoy a weekend away from everything.

After getting settled a little bit, it was time to venture around the property. The property was beautiful. You could see the mountains in the distance, they created a little waterfall to enjoy and endless amounts of places to sit and just enjoy the nature around us.

Even though we were enjoying the property, the kids were very eager to get in the hot tub. They were very eager to enjoy the hot tub, but it’s been a long while since they’ve been in a hot tub, so they really forgot about how hot it really was. Their time in the hot tub didn’t last long and before we knew it they were out, in their pjs and playing games. I got to say, it was really great not having any tv or internet to occupy our minds. I loved the fact that while Courtney and I were enjoy drinks by the fire, the kids were busy giggling with each other playing games.

Sure was peaceful to wake up, look out the window and see the mountains in the distance. It sure isn’t like our cabin in Estes Park, but this is the next best thing. I loved being able to go outside on the deck with a fire roaring in the background, with a handsome man delivering me a hot cup of coffee. It was great.

We knew that our only whole day at the cabin, we just wanted to be there, build a big fire, roast marshmallows, eats lots of food and just be together. I was very much looking forward to just being by the fire all day and watch the kids run around playing.

It was the most perfect day and the best thing for our family before Courtney leaves for 6 months. I honestly wasn’t ready for our time to end here at the cabin because I knew the official countdown to Courtney leaving was about to begin. It’s about to get real and I’m not ready for it.

But before we leave, it’s time to just go slow, enjoy some coffee and listen to the rain falling.

We stayed at the cabin until the very last minute. We were all not ready to say goodbye to the cabin, but I believe that we all truly enjoyed every minute of being there and we will be back for sure!!

Before we headed back to Sumter, we wanted to make one last stop. Back in the summer time, Amber took the kids for the weekend and while the kids were away, Courtney and i traveled to Greenville. Since then, the kids have non stop have asked if we could take them to Greenville. So, since we were right around the corner from Greenville, we took the time to take the kids there and do a little bit of exploring there with them.

It was an amazing weekend, but I am not looking forward to it being over. We made some amazing memories together as a family, that’s for sure, but I’m not ready for reality to seep back in.
