Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene coming through here wasn't a whole lot of fun. The worst part of it was that Courtney was working for all of it. They did tell him to get a room on base, so he didn't need to drive in it, but he refused to leave McKaila, me, and the animals all alone.
The winds and rain started early in the day and it seemed like just as Courtney arrived home, the winds started to get worse. Luckily for us, only one tree fell down in the backyard, but it got caught onto another tree, so it didn't fall to the ground.
We got pretty lucky in the fact that we didn't lose electricity. It kept flickering every once in awhile at night, but always stayed on. We feel very lucky because there are some places that still don't have power.

Most times the creek don't flow like this
You can see where the water went up to, on base they got close to 12 inches of rain. We think we got more here

Earthquake

So, as many of you already know, Courtney, McKaila and I were in DC when the earthquake hit. At the moment the earthquake happened, we were on the 2nd floor of the Natural History Museum. We had only been there for about 10-20 minutes when the earthquake hit. They evacuated the building and we all headed down the stairs. We were thankful for a nice woman that helped me bring the stroller down the stairs.
As we were evacuating the building, we really didn't know what was going on. The workers just told us to get out ASAP! We didn't really know what was going on until we started walking to the car, when we started getting messages from people on Facebook.

Minutes after evacuating

The helicopter was inspecting the monument, but we didn't know what it was doing until we got to our car and heard it on the radio

All and all, it was a pretty scary situation we were in. Everything ended up closing for inspection of the buildings along with Metro, so we had to walk 2 1/2 miles to our car. Thankfully we weren't the only ones having to do it, so we had lots to keep our eye on while we walked.

Once we got home, all the animals were very happy to see us. We believe our cat, Meeko was the most shaken up by it all. He didn't want to leave the bed until late into the night. We did have a few things from the walls fall, only a couple things were broken and hoping to fix. We are just incredibly happy that everyone is safe, along with our animals.

Piggy Tails

Today McKaila finally let me do something to her hair.
I've been so eager to do something to her hair now that it's been getting longer. This is just the beginning, haha

Leaves and Grass

McKaila loves to be outside. She even loves crawling on the grass and on the porch, which I hear not all babies like doing. She really loves being in the grass. She tries to pull out the grass from the ground and whenever she sees a leaf, she needs to get it and pull it into many different pieces.

She loves it

Yesterday, we sat outside in the front yard waiting for Daddy to get home from work. She was just loving it. She looked up to the sky every time she heard a plane in the air. She was constantly talking to the big dog across the street, which then made our dogs bark like crazy, so she would turn to the house and start yelling at the dogs, so cute.

Bolling AFB

Yesterday, we decided to head over to Bolling AFB. We've been wanting to check the base out for a while, and now that we had some extra time, we thought it would be a perfect time to check it out.

We had so much fun at Bolling and can't wait to go back. We found a park for McKaila to play on, plus the base is right across from Reagan Airport, so she loved watching the planes take off. Each time a plane would take off, she'd point and talk a lot. It was adorable.

Down at the Wharf

We've been saying we would take my mom down to the wharf for her past couple trips down here, so finally we had the chance to go. We went at lunch time, so we could enjoy some of the Phillips Seafood Buffet. It was beyond delicious. Recommend it to everyone!!!

Afterwards, we walked down to the wharf. It's pretty crazy down there. People throwing around fish. Blue Crabs thrown into buckets, and so on. Courtney surprised me by buying my favorite, shrimp. Jumbo shrimp. It was so good!!!! We enjoyed it in our pasta tonight!!

Just a little bit of what they have there
YUMMY

McKaila really enjoyed watching the blue crabs moving around

Kisses

McKaila's new thing is pulling herself up to my mirror and looking at herself. She really loves bringing her lips to the mirror and giving it kisses. She thinks it's funny and we think it's the cutest thing ever!

Movie and Bath Time

Courtney decided to play Toy Story 3 the other night and McKaila loved it. She sat in her chair that Grandma Kuipers just bought her and didn't move. It was so freakin' adorable!

As you see McKaila got a Cars chair/bed. She has fallen in love with Cars. I wonder who got her to love that????

After a little bit of Toy Story 3, it was bath time for McKaila. She just loves being in the bath. She loves to be in any water really. She loves to splash around and play with her rubber ducky.
